Discussion forum for authors and attendees

Many conferences have had to transition from an in-person to a virtual event. EDAS now supports such virtual conferences by allowing each session to have a link to a video conferencing service such as Zoom. Also, if enabled in the conference configuration, authors and attendees can discuss papers via a simple message board. Authors receive all messages, while attendees can mark papers as favorites. Once attendees have commented on a paper, they will get any follow-up discussion as well.

Discussions are time-limited, with the start and end date set by the chair in the conference configuration ("Online access & program"). Only attendees who have been given access to the manuscript can comment on a paper.

Discussion links have to be enabled on the program page.

Conferences can now upload PDF backgrounds and generate presenter and author certificates. Each author or presenter can download their certificate from the paper page, by clicking on the icon next to the (bio) label. The certificate can include the author or presenter name and the paper title. Certificates for attendees and reviewers will be added on request.

Equations in paper titles, abstracts and reviews

EDAS now implements MathJAX, so that all elements, such as paper titles, abstracts and review text, can contain LaTeX equations and symbols. Only \(...\) for inline math and \[...\] for display math are recognized since the dollar sign would trigger too many erroneous renderings when dollars as monetary units are meant instead of math.

Plagiarism checking

EDAS uses two mechanisms to check for possible plagiarism. For IEEE conferences, it now uses ithenticate (CrossCheck); for all other conferences, the docoloc service. (The choice is not based on the quality of the external service, but rather simply reflects the fact that IEEE prefers that all of its conferences use CrossCheck, and pays for that service.)
